3 Of The Less Common Signs That Your Windshield May Need To Be Replaced

If you have a crack in your windshield or your windshield shattered during a car accident, you are likely aware that you need a windshield replacement completed. However, cracks in a windshield or a shattered windshield are not the only reasons why a windshield replacement may be needed. Read on to learn a few of the less common indications that your windshield may need to be replaced.

Things Look Wavy or Distorted When You Are Driving

One of the signs that your windshield needs to be replaced is seeing things that look wavy or distorted out of the windshield. As you sit in the driver's seat and start to look out the windshield, things may look wavy or distorted if a new windshield was installed at the wrong angle, your existing windshield shifted position due to an accident, or an existing windshield is starting to warp with age. Unfortunately, it can be hard to see this type of damage when looking at the vehicle on the outside. Most people, including professionals, cannot tell that the windshield is angled incorrectly or warped until they look out the windshield and see distortion.

You Hear Whistling or Rattling As You Drive Your Car

Another sign that you may notice if your windshield needs to be replaced is whistling or rattling coming from the front end of your car as you are driving. This problem typically occurs when air is getting in through gaps between the frame of your car and the windshield, or the windshield is rattling around in the frame. This problem typically happens when the seal used to hold a new windshield in place does not fully harden, but this problem can also occur if the windshield seal cracked due to an accident or the frame holding your windshield in place is starting to sag due to old age.

You Notice Water or Condensation on Your Dashboard

The final sign that your windshield may need to be replaced is seeing water or condensation on your dashboard. If there are cracks in the seal around the windshield or there are gaps between an old and saggy frame and your windshield, the cracks or gaps may allow moisture into your car. You will see this moisture around the inside edges of the windshield or your dashboard.

If you notice that things look wavy or distorted when you look out your windshield, if you notice whistling or rattling when you drive, or if you see condensation building up on your dashboard, your windshield likely needs to be replaced. Bring your car to a windshield replacement company to inspect and replace your windshield.
